Boston Typhoon, build log.

well i desided to do a photo log of this build. i started it last year and got the hull almost complete. its a slow build this one. using more g.r.p and wood parts than other kits i have done. there are also 100's of metal cast parts.
the only thing i have added to the kit is a brass propeller. it comes with a white metal one which looks fine but is not strong-enough for running it.

i have now made a good start on the super-structure. its made of 3 g.r.p pieces, plastic shaped pipe for the funnel and lots of metal bits. i havent yet put the port-hole glass in yet, that will be last after painting. in these pics it is painted in undercoat.

as i am very happy with this kit i have put a link to mountfleets website at the bottom of this page. i have no connection to the business, just a happy customer.

note.....this is not a kit for a beginner!! alot of information has to be read off the plans, the instructions are not step-by-step

well here is the next update, i have continued to add pieces to both the deck and the super structure.
the picture on the right is of the brass propeller i mentioned befor.

next little update, added a few more details.

the main trawl winch.

this is the main trawl winch. its made up of about 100 pieces. mostly metal. it took about 5 hours work to get it built. it is nearly finished now, just some colour to add to it

started painting the top.

well i have put a few more hours into it. i have just about finished the main winch. i have built the fore-mast, this is supplied as a piece of dowl and has to be tapered down to fit the rings that go round it at diffrent hights. a slow job!
just below the main mast i have started the fore-gallows, these are what would support the warp (cable) when the net is out.
i have also started the painting. the funnel and cowl vents are now done. so is the top surface of the super-structure. this will stay gray. all the sides will be painted brown. this will be brush painted now.

slowly getting on with the painting.

yet more built, the rear mast, rear gallows and a few other bits.

the name......

well i have desided that i am going to not name her the boston typhoon, but the bracon glen.

the bracon glen was the sister ship to the boston typhoon, they where both registered out of fleetwood. the bracon glen's reg number was FD 283.
as the kit does not include the name transfers it is no problem getting others made. i am having them made up in white vinyl.
