End of the line between 1970 and 1985.
the 2 possible plans.....
My new project is the small end to end track plan above. Still got to come up with a name but its a small fictional station terminus, probubly somewhere in the south of england.
The base board is 8foot long (240cm) by 16inch (40cm). this gives a scenic area of 6foot (180cm) long and a small back area for a fiddle yard that will have a fold-down extention to hold longer trains.
This is built from 10mm plywood and 2 x 45mm square pine bars. There is then a backboard 6inch (15cm) tall and made of 5mm ply. The base board is stained brown abd the back board has a coat of white undercoat on it for now.
More building has been done! the controler and train pack arrived. this is the bachmann DCC, EZ controler. its a brilliant piece of kit! very simple to set up and use, takes just a little getting used to the trains braking befor stopping rather than just stopping dead, but much more realistic! i have started to lay the cork underlay for the track too, this shows the trackplan really clearly on the photo now.
I've built the scenic break, cut the whole through and glued on the tunnel enterance. i then fixed the front triangle wood support and started cutting the in-fill foam that will form the ground. the second side of the tunnel will have more of a gentle slope with a road coming down for depot access.
Hornby platform shelters, re-painted ready for fitting onto the station..... when it is built.
The station bits have finaly arrived! so here is the first building stage, i have built the main platform and formed the sides to make the ramp at the end of the platform. this ramp needs its stone platform top cutting to shape now. next step is to mark and drill the holes in the top to fit the canopies, then glue a layer of cork to the bottom to bring it up to the right hight to match the train doors when the rails are in place. the station building is from hornby and seams to be well built and decorated, just a shame its not just a little bigger, but we cant have everything.
The track has finaly arrived!!!
the track is now fixed down onto the cork bed and all tested. the gap at the station between the "going round loop" is jsut big-enough to get 3 coaches in and the end space is big enough to get my biggest loco (class 45) in and change the points.
now its fitted i have added in some concrete trunking and electric boxes. almost ready to add some ballast!

Now started to make the concrete base in the corner of the workshed and yard behind the station. this will be extended a little further along the back to give a work-area or goods unloading area.
started to add a little detail around the station. just need to straighten up those concrete bollards and then tarmac the carpark.
