the best feature of this little boat is its deck. it is planked in mahogany, with abass wood inlay around the cockpit. the calking is white. this was done on the model with this plastic strip between the planks. when it was all glues up, it was sanded down to a very smooth finish to get the lovely shiny deck you see there. it took alot of work but it came up a treat.
MAGGIE M
This is a 1/32 scale model of a north sea, shelterdeck fishing trawler.
it is built from a kit by model slipway. it has a GRP (fiberglass) hull and the top is built of mostly plastic card with white metal fittings.
the rusting and weathering at the back was done with the same methord as i use on tanks, MIG powders, just this time i sprayed with mat varnish on top to stop it washing off!!
it is R/C, powered by a 540 geared motor, so it runs at a scale speed.
the real maggie m.
tug boat, Al Khubar
under construction.....
my first models i didnt take any photos during construction, i wish i had, its good to have a record of what goes into them. here is the first under construction picture i took, it is about half way through the build of the al khubar.
as you can see, i have just about finished the main building, just needs all the details. the bottom of the hull is painted. for the top half i couldnt find a spray of that colour so it is brushpainted. the decks are also brush painted. the white, i used white primer spraypaint. i find most white paints tend to yellow with time but the primer stays a good clean white.
both the al khubar and maggie m are model slipway kits, i have no connection to their business but i really like their kits so here is a link to their site.....
boston typhoon, 1950's trawler.
this is a 1:32 scale model of a 1950's trawler, it is a kit from mountfleet models and its huge!!! its about 4'6'' long and there are around 1000 white metal parts in the kit, its a slow build this one! i am powering it with an electric motor, running through a 6:1 gearbox. i will hopefully fit a smoke machine to the funnel.
